How does Termidor work?
Termidor is a liquid termiticide containing fipronil, applied by a licensed technician to create a continuous chemical zone around the perimeter of a structure. Trenching and drilling
Your technician trenches along the external perimeter of the home, drills through concrete paths and slabs at regulated intervals, and injects Termidor HE into the soil to create an unbroken treatment zone to the required depth.
The 'Transfer Effect'
Fipronil is slow-acting by design. Termites pass through the treated zone, pick up the product on their bodies, and carry it back to the colony — transferring it to other termites before they die. This 'Transfer Effect' is what makes Termidor so effective at eliminating colonies, not just killing foragers at the point of contact.
Long-term residual protection
Once installed, the treated zone continues to protect the property. BASF's Termidor Assurance Warranty provides up to 8 years of warranty coverage for eligible installations, conditional on annual termite inspections being completed to AS 3660.2.
How does Sentricon (and termite baiting) work?
Sentricon is a baiting system manufactured by Corteva Agriscience. Rather than creating a chemical barrier in the soil, it uses in-ground stations installed around the perimeter of a property. Termites find the bait matrix inside the stations, consume it, and share it with the colony — a process designed to eliminate the colony over time.
Several baiting systems are available in Australia, including Sentricon, Exterra and others. All work on a similar principle: attract termites to a bait, disrupt their moulting cycle (typically using an insect growth regulator called hexaflumuron or noviflumuron), and wait for the colony to collapse.
Baiting is a monitoring and control strategy, not an immediate knockdown treatment. Colony elimination typically takes 8 to 12 weeks in SEQ conditions and may take longer in cooler months or with less active colonies. It requires regular site visits — typically fortnightly — to check and replenish stations.
