Pest Control in a Childcare Setting Isn’t Like Pest Control Anywhere Else

Under the Education and Care Services National Regulations, approved providers must ensure premises are safe, clean and in good repair — and the National Quality Standard expects environments that protect children’s health and safety. Pests put compliance, reputation and children at risk. So does the wrong treatment approach. That’s why every Jets treatment is documented, low-impact and scheduled around your service.

Integrated pest management, not just spraying — inspection and prevention come first, chemicals last. Click read more for what we manage and how we work.

What we manage: cockroaches (including German cockroach programs for kitchens and food preparation areas); ants, including red imported fire ants in playgrounds treated under APVMA Permit PER14770 with mandatory Biosecurity Queensland reporting; rodents, with lockable tamper-resistant bait stations and pest-proofing recommendations; spiders, silverfish and wasps, including nest removal from buildings and play equipment where safely accessible; and termites, with visual inspections to AS 3660.2.

How we work: inspect first — identify the pest, the source and the conditions attracting it; targeted treatment — products applied to the label in cracks, crevices and harbourages rather than blanket spraying; exclusion advice — practical proofing recommendations such as door seals and weep hole screens; monitoring — non-toxic monitoring tools where appropriate and scheduled return visits; reporting — documentation after every visit for your compliance records.

Questions Childcare Centre Directors Ask Us

Are the products you use safe for a childcare environment?+

We use only APVMA-registered products, applied at label rates by licensed technicians. Treatments are scheduled when children are not present, treated areas remain off limits until completely dry, and rodent baits are always secured in lockable, tamper-resistant stations placed out of children’s reach. Safety Data Sheets are available for every product we use.

What documentation do we receive for our compliance records?+

Every treatment is supported by a site-specific Activity Risk Management Plan (ARMP) and Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS), managed in accordance with the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 (Qld). SDS and product label information is available, and treatment records can be provided for your audit file.

Can you treat fire ants in our playground?+

Yes. Red imported fire ants are a declared invasive species in Queensland and a genuine safety risk in outdoor play areas. We treat nests by direct injection under APVMA Permit PER14770 and complete the mandatory reporting to Biosecurity Queensland after every service, with a chemical application record provided.

Will treatments disrupt our operating day?+

No — treatments are scheduled when children are not present, and we confirm re-entry times in advance so rooms and play areas are ready before your first arrival. After-hours and weekend scheduling can be arranged.

How often should a childcare centre have pest control?+

Most services benefit from a regular program — typically treatment every six months with monitoring in between, adjusted for kitchens, food storage and seasonal pressure (for example, rodents in winter and fire ant activity after rain). We’ll recommend a schedule based on your site assessment.

Do you service schools and kindergartens too?+

Yes — our education and care pest management covers childcare centres, kindergartens, early learning centres and schools across Ipswich and the Greater Brisbane region.
